Jim
When Jim Anderson joined the UN more than
thirty years ago, he never thought that he
would one day be running a British shop in St.
Genis, France, just across the border from
Geneva. Impressed by the lengths to which
his compatriots would go to bring back their
favorite foods from England, the inspiration
came to him to open a small market
specializing in British food products. He will
never forget opening day on April 2, 1996. He
couldn't believe it. The parking was jammed
with cars, and people were queuing around
the store and all the way out onto the
pavement. Since then the shop has expanded
and Jim attributes the success to listening to
what people want and need. He must be
doing something right, because this friendly
little English shop is a well established
institution among Geneva's expatriate
community and locals alike.
Jim’s wife Margaret, even though
retired, is to be seen more often in the
shop, ensuring everything runs smoothly.
